A well-worn, leather-bound fantasy novel titled “Sorglos’s Saga” resting open on a dark walnut desk, its thick cream pages filled with elegant black type and a faint map illustration in the margins. Beside it, a brass fountain pen and a small stack of neatly arranged index cards hint at careful plotting. In the background, tall bookshelves fade into a soft blur, lined with hardbacks in deep jewel tones. Warm afternoon light pours through an unseen window, creating golden highlights on the leather texture and gentle shadows along the page edges. Photographic realism, eye-level composition, shallow depth of field, and a professional, contemplative mood that suggests a dedicated author’s workspace.

About the Author

Kieran Brightwood crafts epic tales that inviting readers into dangerous adventures across distant realms. He is the author of The Sorglos Chronicles, set on the world of Jord. In this world, the technology is mostly Middle Ages level but is supplemented by magic. Adventure, characters, and other worldly challenges drive the narrative.

The author lives with his wife in Oregon. Previously, he was an engineer by day and a fantasy writer by night. He has been writing fantasy fiction stories for his four children since they were young. Now, he has created new worlds and characters for more people to enjoy.

Inside the World of Sorglos

In Jord, where magic resets at dawn, sixteen-year-old Sorglos’s brash pursuit of a deer into the forbidden forest unleashes a witch’s curse, binding him to months of servitude under Hexe. His recklessness traps Sorglos into aiding Kula with his plans for an empire. Sorglos’ defiance destroys Kula but leaves him haunted by guilt. Wielding single-use enchanted devices, he journeys home, outwitting strange beasts, frustrating mysteries, cunning wizards, and heart-wrenching dilemmas. Once home, he rallies his siblings to cure their parents’ disease and confronts Girig, whose talisman curses Langsam with drought and disease.

What’s Different

Sorglos’ Saga differs from many coming-of-age fantasy books as Sorglos has no magic talent of his own. Instead, he uses single-purpose enchanted tools in clever ways to help others and himself. His encounters are distinctive and different from other published works. In addition, the saga mixes subtle tongue-in-cheek humor into the story.
